About us
Sarah Jayne Designs is a UK based company incorporated in 2017.
We design and make sleeves for protecting all types of books, from Heirloom Bibles to journals and paperbacks, we provide stylish, timeless, practical must have pieces that you will look forward to using.
The company is a small family business and has built organically over the years, starting in a room with one sewing machine and a dining table, attending local markets around the country to sell our products before moving into a workshop and launching a website.
Reading is a big part of our lives and we had been designing and creating book sleeves for many years before starting the company, We had trialled using various fabrics, mainly for protecting paperbacks when we were camping or sailing but one summer, shortly after starting the business, we visited the Scottish Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. At a tweed mill, we fell in love with Harris Tweed® The variety of patterns was incredible, and we deeply admired the process and ethos behind the cloth. Our journey with Harris Tweed transformed the company. We bought some on the spot and, once home, immediately began designing book sleeves. Harris Tweed is made from 100% British wool, naturally renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. It is also breathable, wind, waterproof and flame resistant, all without the need for additional finishes.
We applied to the Harris Tweed Authority to become artisans and started building our community. Fast forward a few years, and we now have a registered company, a workshop, a website, an Etsy shop, and customers all over the world.
We have reached customers in 2,309 cities in 34 countries, many of our customers are repeat buyers and we truly value their custom.
We love working with Harris Tweed® and being part of the process that means your Harris Tweed products from us are handmade from start to finish. Our dedication to quality and attention to detail is reflected in every book sleeve we create, ensuring that each piece is crafted with precision and care.
We update our selection of tweed patterns as the mills that supply us create new designs, so some products end up being made with tweeds that are later discontinued, making them rare and special. However, we always try to keep a few core patterns and colors that are our best sellers.
We care about the environment and make a point to buy goods locally from other small businesses. All our textiles, threads, packaging, sewing machines, leaflets, and hardware are sourced in the UK, and our packaging is completely recyclable.
